]]> Epicurean Event to Feature Local Food, Wine

            On Tuesday, May 15, the Aurora Inn Dining Room will present the last event of its epicurean series before the summer break; the Dining Room’s epicurean events will resume in the fall. Each of the evening’s five courses will be paired with wines or spirits provided by local vintners and distillers. The event will commence with a 6:30 p.m. reception, and dinner will begin at 7 p.m. The meal costs $60, plus tax and gratuity.

The Finger Lakes Wine Dinner will include wines from Heron Hill Winery, Shaw Vineyard, Damiani Wine Cellars, and Glenora Vineyards, amongst others. Accompanying courses designed by Executive Chef Patrick Higgins, will feature Italian dishes, including a Caprese salad and handmade Porkchetta. “This dinner is different than the others we’ve done in the past in that it will be served as shared plates,” adds Director of Training and Service Meryl Davis. “Everything will be served family-style, while still retaining the casual elegance of our earlier wine dinners.” In celebration of spring, the meal will also include many locally grown products.

Recipient of the biggest grant is the Finger Lakes International Dragon Boat Festival. The event draws approximately 500 people from outside central New York every year, and about 4,000 people total, said Ithaca Asian American Association President Siv Somchanhmavong. The festival received a $15,000 grant.

The Finger Lakes is an American viticulture area in upstate New York, five hours’ drive north east of Manhattan, with its own microclimate influenced by the deep lakes of Seneca, Keuka and Canandaigua.
