2012 marks a huge milestone for Dr. Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars as well as the Finger Lakes wine industry, our 50th Anniversary. Fate has played a role in unearthing a tremoundous, rarely seen documentary of Dr. Konstantin Frank himself. Upon finding the documentary, we refurbished it and put it in digital format. The full documentary will not be available for the public to see until our formal 50th Anniversary event on July 1, 2012. FLX Harvest: The Reds of Red Newt

The 2011 Harvest at Red Newt Cellars started in late September and lasted for a little over one month. Diligence in the vineyard and in the cellar was essential! Here we have Winemaker Brandon Seager discussing what to expect from 2011 Finger Lakes Reds.

Learning in the digital age in the Finger Lakes region

“I think it’s a very exciting time to use technology in the classroom,” said Rich Colosi, a first-grade teacher at Canandaigua Primary School. “It’s definitely good to start at a young age.”

Colosi — who has taught at Canandaigua for six years — is an advocate for utilizing technology and turning it from a potential distraction to an educational tool. He first started using an interactive whiteboard in December 2007. In 2009, he started a podcast with his students, an activity that he said was both educational and fun for students.

Neighbors Speak Passionately About Possible LPG Storage Facility in the Finger Lakes

Watkins Glen, N.Y. – More than 100 neighbors turned out, in Schuyler County, for a second public hearing on a controversial project in the Town of Reading. Construction of a liquid propane gas facility is being proposed, next to Seneca Lake.

The energy company Inergy, based out of Missouri, wants to build a $40 million LPG Storage facility in empty salt caverns, next to Seneca Lake.

However, most of those in attendance, Thursday, were against this facility coming to the Finger Lakes region. Many neighbors told us this facility will act as a gateway for the natural gas industry to come to New York. They say it’ll ruin the Finger Lakes tourism and wine industries, as well as, damage the environment.

The fall weather is a sure sign of harvest season in the Finger Lakes. Local wine makers are working hard getting their grapes from the vine to the bottle.

It’s harvest time, and the constant year long battle against mother nature will finally pay off with a sweet reward, perfectly ripe grapes.
